The Prestigious Montage Palmetto Bluff Resort in South Carolina
“The Best of Lowcountry” as their own website states, the Montage Palmetto Bluff is a beautiful 5-star getaway located along the May River in South Carolina. It’s approximately 30 minutes from both Hilton Head and Savannah, Georgia.
I actually stayed at The Montage for a wedding. I had heard about it for years, but finally got to experience it firsthand and it did not disappoint. It’s worth a visit if you happen to be in the area, but also worth a trip specifically to visit the resort.
Location = 4
This location is ranked high because you literally do not need to leave the property once you’re on it. Is it the most convenient to get to? No. But it’s not in complete seclusion and it is under two hours from two airports, so it could be worse. The drive to the resort is a beautiful journey through low-country. The overall property is huge — 20,000 acres — and you’re encouraged to explore via bike or by walking.
The most important thing that I was no made aware of is that IF you Uber there, you literally cannot get an Uber out of there. As in no Uber will accept the ride. I scheduled an Uber ahead of time and (fortunately) ordered it earlier than I needed, but after nearly an hour of canceled cars, I went to the concierge who then told me that Ubers refuse to pick up from the property because it is out of the way. A friend who had a car and was staying a day longer had to drive me to the airport so I didn’t miss my flight. So if you do Uber to the resort, just make sure you schedule a car with the concierge to get back to the airport. They have a few drivers that they contact to get guests where they need to go, so as long as you know this ahead of time, you’ll be perfectly fine. You can also enjoy a complimentary driving experience in one of the on-site Cadillac’s if you find yourself wanting to explore outside the property.
Service = 5
The service meets every expectation for a 5-star resort. From the moment you arrive with the check-in process to the people you encounter while roaming the property to the waitstaff and maids, everyone is extremely kind and helpful. I have nothing negative to say about the service during my stay.
Rooms = 5
There are various options for rooms. I stayed in a Lagoon Guest House King Room. It was a short walk from the main house and the pools, while also being positioned near a road lined with cottages.
Note: I was able to walk everywhere I went, but there is an option to rent a golf cart during your stay to drive around the property. If you plan to do so, call before you arrive and reserve it because there is a limited amount. Once they’re accounted for, you’re out of luck.
Food = 4
The food is very good. Don’t let this non-5 rating steer your opinion wrong. There are multiple options and, to be fair, I did not dine at all of them. I don’t necessarily remember anything seriously standing out, but the service makes every dining experience top notch. And some of my favorite moments took place at the bar in the Octagon restaurant. I hope that Vic is working during your visit, as he is the best! Both at mixing drinks and conversing. My group found ourselves hanging out with him until close every night.
Amenities = 5
You really can’t ask for anything more. I honestly don’t know if there could be any more options.
Spa - I surprisingly did not go to the spa, but know others who thoroughly enjoyed it.
Pools - Multiple options, including an adults-only one. Nothing super special but definitely fulfill the desire to sit poolside and sip a drink.
Countless Outdoor Activities - picnic, kayaking, golfing, biking, sporting clays, paddle boarding, tennis, workout classes, fishing, scenic yacht cruises and so much more.
Have you been to the Montage Palmetto Bluff or is this the first you’ve heard of it? Let me know!
