HOT TAKE: Rome Is Actually Underrated

Ok maybe Rome isn’t underrated per se, but rather under-appreciated.

The Colosseum is said to be the #4 most visited tourist destination in the world and the city of Rome, in general, is in the top 15 most visited cities according to most sources. So it definitely gets plenty of attention when it comes to tourism.

But here’s why I say it’s still under-appreciated.. Most people I know that have been to Rome didn’t enjoy it. Whereas, I loved it! Way more than I thought I would.

And the reason why I believe most don’t like it? They don’t spend enough time there. People tend to do a tour around Italy, spending a day or two in each location. Which is understandable because you always want to make the most of a trip abroad. However, you’ll learn through this blog that I tend to take a different approach when I travel.

I like to spend at least a week in a new city when I visit. Ok yes, occasionally it’s less but it’s always more than 4 days. So when I went to Italy, I only went to Rome. And I stayed for 10 days. And to be honest, it STILL wasn’t enough time!

Between the food spots to all of the tourist attractions to the neighborhoods, Rome has enough things to do for a month.

It certainly is a hot take to say that Rome is underrated. But I stand by it because I think most people miss all that it has to offer. Am I crazy?

[See where I recommend staying in Rome.]
